If you’ve been taking classes at Move It Studio, you are no stranger to Pilates. Whether you know it or not, we work to integrate elements of this amazing form of movement into all of our signature Move It Barre classes. We like to say that Move It Barre combines an amazing blend of ballet barre exercises with Pilates. Now, we are again offering Mat Pilates as a stand-alone class so that you can truly feel what it means to “use your core.” This class will be offered three times a week: Tuesdays at 5:30 PM, Thursdays at 10:30 AM, and Saturdays at 8 AM.
What is Pilates?
Pilates is an innovative and safe system of mind-body exercise using a floor mat or a variety of equipment. Pilates is an exercise system developed by Joseph Pilates originally called “Contrology.” In his words, this movement form was not a class, it was a way of life to unify the body, mind, and spirit. Today, many are familiar with Pilates because of its popularity with dancers, models, and actresses. But you don’t have to be any of those to enjoy the balancing effects of Pilates.
Studio owner, Marie Cleaves Rothacker, like many other dancers first discovered Pilates for her body when she was training and suffering from wear and tear injuries at the age of 15. While pursuing her Master’s degree, she also set about training to be a Pilates teacher through Balanced Body University. Before opening the studio in 2015, Marie was teaching Pilates at three different locations along with other movement classes.
Deb Nehlig has long been an established Pilates teacher in the area. She is a Pilates Method Alliance certified Pilates teacher as well as a 500 hour Kripalu yoga teacher. Her expertise and experience create an environment of discovery for each client to create more balance in their bodies.
When can I take Mat Pilates?
Mat Pilates classes are being offered at three different time slots to meet your needs. Tuesdays at 5:30 PM, Thursdays at 10:30 AM, and Saturdays at 8 AM. All class passes and memberships include this new class offering.
