I don’t know about you, but there was something about watching the “Framing Britney Spears” documentary that felt eerily insidious. On some level, as women in our society, especially motivated, attractive ones, we’ve all lived a part of that story. The story that plays into a misogynistic system that we’ve all gotten used to as our reality. The reckoning of so many dysfunctional systems in our country over the past few years brings to light just how impossible it feels to counteract the powers that be. And, it also gives hope to those of us working to build something new. To create a different reality. One that empowers ALL of us.
Our goal with Move It and the Shop is to support you individually and collectively in living an intentional life. You can have it all. You can move, shop, and live intentionally. It’s not about one or the other. It’s about embracing the interconnected complexities that make us human and make us the powerful beings we are. As we developed the Shop Move It March collection around women’s empowerment, it felt difficult to simply describe each item. The woman’s experience is so much more than just a theme. And as a woman growing up in America, wow, I have a lot to say about it. It felt best to sum up the collection with a poem. SHE REIGNS
She
wears her feelings on her sleeve;
views it as strength,
not the weakness they tell her
it means.
She
wears a gold cuff;
links it to honor,
not vanity.
She
plants herself firmly
in her thoughts,
imprints her reflection
in wet cement.
She
mixes ideas to create anew;
a vision of words on paper
sticking to whatever they choose.
She wants the world
to know,
to feel,
to see,
as she does.
Holding all parts dear, as
she reigns;
not over,
not under,
but with all of what makes her real.
